Volunteer Information and Requirements
Volunteer Coaches
In order to be a UDYWA coach, there are two sets of requirements you must comply with:
1. Obtain a USA Wrestling "Wrestling Leader" membership.
This requires completion of the online SafeSport training (about 90 minutes) and completion of the USA Wrestling online background check.

2. Obtain PA State Background Checks:
Any UDYWA volunteer ages 18 and older who accepts responsibility for a UDYWA wrestler and has direct contact* with our wrestlers is defined as a mandatory reporter under Pennsylvania law:
*“Direct contact” is defined as the care, supervision, guidance or control of children and routine interaction with children. “Routine interaction with children” is defined as regular and repeated contact that is integral to a person's employment or volunteer responsibilities.
As a mandatory reporter, certain clearances will be required for an individual to participate within the UDYWA organization, the following must be submitted to coaches@udywa.org prior to the start of the wrestling season. At a minimum, this applies to all Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches in our program.
